Session 10: The Kingdom of God
The Kingdom of God is the world of love, peace, and justice that God has in Heaven and wants for us
on Earth. Jesus’ disciples share in his life and in his work. The Holy Spirit helps us proclaim the Gospel in
our words and actions. In his parable of the Vine and the Branches, Jesus teaches us that we need to
stay connected to him in order to have life.
Jesus included those often left out by others, and showed that God welcomes everyone.
Parents, in the Bible, read aloud: Mt. 19:13-15 Blessing of the Children
Here is a book based on the Scripture reading using Sand Art! Watch:
Jesus teaches us that people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome in God’s Kingdom.
Next, let's read the story of Zacchaeus, a man who thought God didn’t care about him, but Jesus chose
to go to Zacchaeus’ house out of a whole crowd of people. This was a great honor. Jesus showed
Zacchaeus that he is welcome in God’s Kingdom.
Parents read Luke 19: 1-10
Below is a cartoon version of the Scripture to help kids visualize the story.
Jesus explained in the Gospel of John how we are connected to Him by comparing our relationship to that of a vine and branches. We need God to survive!
Parents, read:
(The Vine and the Branches)
Parents say: Godloves us and takes care of us. Everyone is important to Jesus. We don’t have to worry, but instead
we must rely on Him. He wants us to turn away from choices that separate us from God (sin) because
sin makes us less than God created us to be. He wants us to live fruitful lives- and become saints!
When Zacchaeus realized God’s great love for him, he changed his life and grew closer to God.
Stay close to Jesus like a branch on a vine. Share the Good News of God’s Kingdom with loving words
and actions. To understand this Scripture reading better, watch:
