Session 5: Live in the Light

Another name for Jesus is The Light of the World. We are all called to live in that light and spread it to others by doing God's work in the world through acts of love and charity, by having faith in God and placing out hope, or trust in Him.

With a parent, read Matthew 5:14-16 (You are the Light of the World)

Today we are going to learn how to be a light in the world. We are going to learn about the Theological Virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. Mrs. Christie explains further in the video:

God has a plan for each of our lives. God’s plan for your life is called your vocation. People will have

different careers and roles when they grow up, but no matter what you decide to do, God wants you to

use that role to become a Saint! Through your vocation, you can do God’s work and share Jesus’

peace with others. When you choose loving actions, then you are following God’s plan. Let's learn more

about how to become a saint through loving by watching the video below:

 Activity For This Lesson:

Draw a picture of how you can increase your virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity. Post an image

of your drawing in your Level 3 Google Classroom.

Pray this closing prayer with a parent:

Lord God, increase our faith, that is, our understanding of you, increase our hope, that is,

our trust in you, and increase our charity, that is, our love for ourselves and others. Amen.

Faith Words In This Lesson:

Vocation: God’s plan for our lives; the purpose for which he made us.

Virtues: good spiritual habits that make you stronger and help you do what is right and good. The word

comes from a latin word Virtus meaning strength

Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity (love), which are gifts from God that guide our relationship

with him.

Faith: the theological virtue that makes it possible for us to believe in God and all that he helps us

understand about himself. Faith leads us to obey God. Want faith? Just ask God for it in prayer.

Hope: the theological virtue that helps us trust in the true happiness God wants us to have and in Jesus’

promises of eternal life, and to rely on the help of the Holy Spirit.

Charity: the theological virtue of love. It directs us to love God above all things and our neighbor as

ourselves, for the love of God.
