Session 2: What We Believe

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus challenges his closest friends, the apostles, by asking them to think deeply about who He is. When we read this Scripture passage in the Bible, Jesus poses the same challenge to us.

Read Matthew 16:13-20

Think about this question:

Who do you believe Jesus is?

You may find that your answer may reveal just where you are today in your journey toward a deeper friendship with Him.  In the video below Bishop Robert Barron comments on the question of who Jesus is.

The early Christians grappled with Jesus' question, and at different times throughout history the Church has established doctrine, or an official set of beliefs.

So, what exactly do we believe, as Catholics? We can look closely at one prayer to find out: The Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed proclaims belief in the Holy Trinity; the Incarnation, Passion, and Resurrection of Christ; the Second Coming and Last Judgment of Christ; the forgiveness of sins; the church; and eternal life. Let's read the prayer that we say at Mass.

Read The Nicene Creed.

Prefer to hear someone else read while you follow along? Ok, then watch the video below.

Now, you've read the Nicene Creed and listened to it read aloud, but can you explain

to others what it means? The two videos below will make you an expert on The Nicene Creed.

Get ready to impress your parents and religion teacher. Watch the videos below.
