Session 2: Prayer and Holiness

Take a moment to think about what it means to be holy. Let’s look at the words of Jesus.

With a parent, read Matthew 5:43-48.

*A note about the linked Bible reading: You have to scroll down to the verse number since the chapter starts at the beginning.

Reflect: What is Jesus challenging us to do in this Scripture reading?  How does forgiving

others make us reflect God in the world?

Mrs. Christie reads the scripture and shares a reflection here:

Being holy means belonging to God and working for his purposes, being set apart  by one’s relationship

with God and effort to strive for goodness.

Reflect: How does following Jesus’ teachings set you apart from others?

Saints are role models of holiness for us because they answered the call of the Holy Spirit and tried

to follow Jesus’ teachings.

Mary is the Queen of the Saints, the perfect model of holiness, because of her complete obedience

to God. Asking Mary for her protection and prayers through reciting the Rosary helps us grow in holiness. Rosary beads are known as a “sacramental,” that is, a sacred symbol and tool to help us pray. By praying the Rosary we are responding to God’s grace, (the gifts we receive in the Sacraments). The prayers of the rosary are rooted in Scripture. Let’s take a look.

Read each passage. Which of the following prayers comes from each reading?

The prayer choices are: The Sign of the Cross, The Lord’s Prayer, The Hail Mary, The Glory Be.

Luke 1:28, 42

Matthew 28:19

Matthew 6:9-13

Philippians 4:20
