Session 2: Mary: A Model of Faith
Mary, the mother of Jesus is the perfect model of holiness.
God gave her a special gift at birth. At the moment that her life began, her conception, God made
her spotless and clean, (free from sin). This is know as the Immaculate Conception.
Part of being holy is being able to accept and do the things that God asks. Mary accepted God’s
will throughout her life. She cared for and protected Jesus, standing by him throughout his life.
She was strong enough to be with him when he was crucified. Mary remained with the Apostles
after Jesus ascended to Heaven. She was there at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came. Mary
is called the Mother of the Church because she holds her Son’s followers close to her heart. She
remains an example of love and faith for all. Let’s read about some important moments in Mary’s
life.
We believe that Mary, because of her special role, went to heaven with both her body and soul at
the moment of her death. This belief is called The Assumption.
