Session 8: The Holy Trinity
As Catholics, we believe in one God made up of three separate persons. This mystery is called The
Holy Trinity.
When Jesus was baptized, The Holy Trinity was revealed to us. God the Father spoke at that moment
saying, "This is my beloved Son" and the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus the Son of God in the form of
a dove. The Trinity is a mystery of our faith. A mystery is something that can be impossible to
understand!
Parents read to students here or in the Catholic Student Bible: Mt 3:13-17
(Baptism of Jesus)
Below is a interactive storybook version of the Gospel.
Jesus was both the Son of God and a human being. He began his Father’s work by being baptized.
After his baptism, Jesus taught about God the Father.
Baptism was the first Sacrament you received. Through your baptism, you are marked as one of God's
children in this first Sacrament of Christian Initiation. Baptism frees us from Original Sin and begins our
faith journey. Baptism imprints a sign on the soul! That's why it cannot be repeated. The white garment
that the infant wears symbolizes being cleansed from sin. Water symbolizes the cleansing and
receiving God's grace. We are reborn in Christ and are ready to live as children of God!
Brother Francis explains what happened at your baptism ceremony briefly here:
Parents and Level 2 students read:
Let's review The Trinity:
God the Father is the 1st person of the Holy Trinity.
Jesus the Son of God is the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity.
The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Holy Trinity.
Stress: The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one God. This is a mystery to us called the Holy Trinity.
Believing in the Holy Trinity is the most important part of your faith and you express this belief every time
you make The Sign of the Cross.
Practice the Sign of the Cross by watching the video below:
After Jesus returned to Heaven, God sent the Holy Spirit to the Apostles to help them start the church.
They needed many gifts such as courage, perseverance, wisdom, knowledge etc. to do this. The Holy
Spirit provided these gifts.
Let’s listen to the story.
