Session 6: Help With Choices

This lesson is about choices. God gave us free will, or the ability to choose how to live our lives. Good

choices are loving choices. Bad choices are unloving choices. First, let's learn about a character in the

Bible who made unloving choices at first, but then changed.  After he changed, his good choices brought

many people closer to God.  This is the story of St. Paul, who helped the early Church grow throughout

the world.

Saul made bad choices that hurt others, but after his conversion or (change of heart) he became one of

the greatest evangelists (teachers about Jesus).

With a parent, begin by reading about St. Paul, who was first called Saul.

Acts 9:1-30 (Saul and Jesus)

Now watch this re-enactment of the story of Saul's conversion, or change.

Discuss with a parent: What is God trying to teach me in this passage? Tell God your questions about

this story. How did Saul change?

The story of Saul teaches us that people who make selfish choices can change and make better

choices. Each of us has a conscience, or a mental ability given to us by God that helps us make

choices about right and wrong. Our parents and teachers help us develop our conscience. Through the

Sacraments, God gives us His Grace, or His own life and help, to make good choices.  Sin is a person's

choice to disobey God on purpose and do what he or she knows is wrong. Sin hurts our relationship with

God and others. However, through receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we experience

forgiveness and heal from sins.

Activity:

Listen to the following story about choices. Then, draw a picture of how Danny could have changed one

of his bad choices into a good choice.  Share your picture by uploading it to your Level 3 Google

Classroom.
