Session 5: Cardinal Virtues
God wants you to be strong and virtues help you to become the person God made you to be.
Cardinal Virtues are the four principle moral virtues: prudence, temperance, justice and fortitude.
Today we will focus on these qualities that strengthen us to make good choices and stay close to God.
Let’s look at the Gospel to learn more about having the kind of faith that leads to living out the Cardinal
Virtues.
Read Matthew 14:22-33
Peter was brave at first, because he trusted Jesus. But when he started becoming afraid, that's
when his trust was tested. Jesus reached out to him, and didn't let him sink. Talk about this Gospel story
with an adult.
Discuss: Has there ever been a time when my faith in God has been tested? Why did this
happen?
When our faith is strong and we rely on God, we make good choices. The Cardinal Virtues are
qualities that reflect a strong faith in God. The following four videos explain the Cardinal Virtues.

Activity: Cardinal Virtue Advertisement
Using the videos to help you brainstorm ideas, create a poster promoting one of the Cardinal
Virtues (regular letter-size paper is fine.) Your poster must explain the virtue you chose. Take a
picture of your poster and upload it to your Level 5 Google Classroom lesson.
For example: "Be Prudent! Make Good Choices!"
(with an illustration of someone making a right choice)
