Session 5: Being a Peacemaker
Respect for others is linked to respect for all of Creation. Being a peacemaker involves
making good choices.
Read James 4:1-3 Cause of Division
Think about it: the NAB translation of the Bible uses the word “passions” which comes from the
Greek word for pleasures. The footnote explains that determining what is enjoyment
is a moral choice. See footnote for James 4:1-3. Passions can lead to peace or conflict.
Read Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the Peacemakers
Think about it: What habits or interests could lead to conflict rather than peace?
Throughout our lives, our choices will determine whether or not we will become
peacemakers.
Read this quote:
“Our freedom fades when it is handed over to the blind forces of the unconscious, of
immediate needs, of self interest, and of violence.” - Pope Francis, Laudato Si
Think about it: Why do conflicts happen?
What does Scripture tell us about conflict? Read Jesus' words in Matthew 5: 23-25.
