Session 5: The Beatitudes
In the Gospels, Jesus talks about a concept called “mercy,” which means showing kindness or concern
for those who are suffering. We begin to look at the mercy that God has for us, which is greater than we
can understand. God loves us and wants us to have life forever in friendship with Him. This idea is called
“eternal life.” God is talking about the time that extends beyond our physical lives on Earth. Jesus says
that our actions now can build up the Kingdom of God on Earth and prepare us to live in God’s friendship
eternally.
Let’s take a look: Read Matthew 5:3-10 The Beatitudes

that we need God’s mercy; we will be blessed if we do.
Mourn: feel or show deep sorrow
Merciful: forgiving and compassionate
Clean of heart: an honest, sincere person, free from blame, unstained by guilt.
