Session 4: Being a Light in the World
God has taken on our humanity. God calls us to defend the life and dignity of others,
which is a Catholic social teaching. Our lives and world know darkness, but the light of Christ
dispels darkness and empowers us to walk in the light of the Lord. We can and must be light
for others. Through gestures of love, acts of charity, and works of justice, we protect human
life and dignity.
Let’s see what Jesus said about those who follow him.
In your Breakthrough Bible, read John 10:12
What do you think it means to have “the light of life?” Jesus says: “Whoever follows
me will have the light of life.”
Read: Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the Light of the World."
Think about it: What is Jesus saying about you?
What has Jesus asked you to do as a baptized Catholic?
How can you be a light for others in the darkness?
Consider these questions as you listen to this song:
Activity: We can be a light to others, in small ways. Sometimes people experience loneliness,
especially during the holidays. Today we are going to write letters to people living at our local
nursing home. Members of our parish who bring Holy Communion to these parishioners,
(Eucharistic Ministers), will give them your letter.
Go to this LINK to write your letter. Type your message under the "Dear Neighbor" greeting. Include your first and last name in your salutation. "Salutation" means how you end your letter. For example:
Respectfully,
Mrs. Christie
We were late with this assignment but hopefully someone can get my letter!
