Lev. 2, Session 3: Reconciliation Workshop
Our goal is to have Level 2 students experience the Sacrament of 1st Reconciliation during the season of Lent this coming February-March 2021. In preparation, let's introduce the students to the Sacrament, its purpose, some of the Scripture that supports it, and the vocabulary that is involved.
Jesus the Good Shepherd
Jesus explains that He is the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep.
Parents Read: The Good Shepherd, John 10:11-15
Discussion Questions:
What is a shepherd? Why is Jesus a “Good Shepherd?”
How are we similar to the sheep in the story?
Why do you think the shepherd would leave the flock to find the lost sheep?
A sin is a person's choice to disobey God on purpose and do what he or she knows is wrong.
Accidents and mistakes are not sins. When we sin Jesus wants us to not be afraid to tell Him we are
sorry. He wants to forgive us, no matter what we have done. Just like the lost sheep, he wants us to
stay close to God. Let's listen to a story about The Good Shepherd.
Building a Relationship With God Through Prayer
Jesus, the Good Shepherd, always cares for us. God wants to have a friendship with us. How do we
communicate with God? Through prayer! How do you pray? Discuss with a parent some of the many
ways to pray.
God gives us forgiveness through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Let's learn more about this
important Sacrament.
Examination of ConscienceIn order to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we must
first conduct an examination of conscience. This is when we sit quietly in prayer and think about the
ways we have sinned, or turned away from our friendship with God.
