Session 2: A Family Discussion About Baptism

Dear Parents:

At the end of this page you will find an assessment link. Please help your child reflect on the lesson and submit it. The first video is a talk by Bishop Robert Barron about Baptism, a clip from a longer movie on the Sacraments. You can certainly begin by watching the short clip with your children, but it is meant to help you speak about the Sacraments with your child.

As you prepare to read the Gospel with your child, help him/her get into a contemplative mindset. This is possible - even for children!
Say: As I read the Gospel, let's step inside The Bible in our thoughts. I want you to imagine you are there at the river, watching Jesus be baptized. What might you see, hear, feel or smell?

With your children, read the following from The Bible

Matthew: 3:13-17 "Jesus is Baptized"

Say: Now let's talk about the story. What was it like to imagine you were there the moment Jesus was baptized? What would you say to Jesus if you were there? What do you wonder about this story?

Below is a video depicting Jesus' Baptism geared toward children. Watch it together.

Just like Jesus, all Catholics celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism. Let's learn more about it from Brother Francis on Formed.org. Don't have an account?
