May Crowning 2020
The May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held during the month of May. It occurs in many parishes and homes, (in the garden or at a "house altar"), with the crowning of a statue of Mary. After a procession, the statue of the Blessed Mother is crowned with a garland or crown of flowers honoring Mary as Queen of Heaven and Mother of God. We recognize Mary as Queen because she was the first and perfect follower of Jesus, who is the absolute "crown" of creation. Mary is the mother of the Prince of Peace: Christ the King. Through Mary, Jesus was brought to you and me. Mary brings us Jesus.
Here are some great videos about why Catholics honor Mary:

A (socially distanced) crowning of Mary was held on Sunday, May 3rd in the parking lot of the large church outside the Outreach Office on the property of Our Lady of Snow. Some brought a flower from their garden, or food item for our Parish Outreach Program to help our neighbors in need. Check out our Pastor, Fr. Kevin Smith's video message about the May Crowning below.
Here's a beautiful version of "Ave Maria" to play during your home May Crowning.
Are you crowning a statue of Mary at home this Sunday? Did you participate in our socially distanced May Crowning at Outreach? Send us your pictures and we will add it to this blog. Submit at LChristie@olsbp.com. Write in the subject line: "May Crowning."
